In the central part, a chest portrait of Tamara Bunke facing front in a beret. To its left is the year of issue 1989, to its right the mintmark of the Havana mint. In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is text in Spanish: «TANIA LA GUERRILERA», translated as «Tania the Guerrilla». Along the curve of the lower edge are the years of her life 1937-1967.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above it an inscription in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DE CUBA», translated as «Republic of Cuba». In the lower part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is an inscription in Spanish: «1 PESO» - 1 peso. To the left and right of the coat of arms, along the rim, are two five-pointed stars.
