    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left. On the right, at the top, a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT', meaning 'two euro cent'. Below the inscription, a symbolic depiction of the globe with the outlines of Europe against a background of six slanted parallel lines, with 12 stars at their ends. Near the rim on the right is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'.

    Along the rim are 12 five-pointed stars, symbolizing the Eurozone countries. At the top, the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. On the right, the year of mintage 2013 and the letter 'R' – the mintmark of the Rome Mint. In the central part, a portrait of Pope Benedict XVI facing forward and inscriptions in Italian: 'ELF INC' – the personal mark of engraver Ettore Lorenzo Frapiccini and the signature of the artist Daniela Longo 'D.L.'.
