In the central part is a left-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar, within a laurel wreath. The name 'Bolivar' is in the truncation. Along the left and right arcs of the coin is the Spanish inscription 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION∙' (Free by the Constitution). The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
Obverse
Centered is a breadfruit tree, with two alpacas lying facing each other on either side of the trunk. Above the crown, nine five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge are inscriptions: on the left, top, and right, the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Bolivian Republic); at the bottom, the Latin letters 'PAZ', the mint year '1855', the inscription '2S' (2 sueldos), and the engraver's mark 'F', with dots between the inscriptions. Along the rim are denticle-like elements.
