In the central part is a breadfruit tree, with alpacas lying facing each other on either side of the trunk. Above the crown, nine five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge of the coin, text from left to right: the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia), at the bottom the Latin letters 'PAZ', the mint year '1853', the inscription '2S' (2 sueldos), the engraver's mark 'J', with dots between the inscriptions. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.
Obverse
In the center is a left-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar. In the truncation is the person's name 'Bolivar'. To the left and right along the edge is text in Spanish 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION∙' (Free by the Constitution). The edge of the coin has decorative raised denticles.
