In the central part is a left-facing portrait of the first President of Bolivia, Simón Bolívar, wearing a laurel wreath on his head. The person's name 'Bolivar' is in the truncation. Along the arc of the left and right edges of the coin is an inscription in Spanish 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION' (Free by the constitution). The coin's edge features decorative raised denticles.
Obverse
In the center is a breadfruit tree; at the base of the trunk, on both sides, alpacas are depicted lying down facing each other. Above the crown, nine five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions: on the left, top, and right, the country's name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Bolivian Republic); at the bottom, the Latin letters 'PTS', the inscription '2S' (2 sueldos), the mint year '1855', the engraver's mark 'MJ', with dots between the inscriptions. Along the rim are denticle-like elements.
