To the right of the numerals is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. In the central part on the left are the outlines of the eurozone countries. From them, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending with 12 stars.

    On the left, the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. In the right part, along the arc of the coin's edge, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the eurozone countries and the personal mark of engraver Guido Veroi – 'GV.UP Inc'. Below is the year of mintage 2004 and the mintmark of the Italian Mint, the letter 'R'. In the central part is a left-facing portrait of Pope John Paul II.
