Obverse In the center is the coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago. It features a heraldic shield with three ships in the lower part and two hummingbirds in the upper part. Above the shield are a helmet with mantling, a ship's wheel, and a coconut palm. The shield is supported by a Scarlet Ibis on the left and a Rufous-vented Chachalaca on the right. At the base, the motto in English: 'TOGETHER WE ASPIRE TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE'. Along the upper arc of the coin's edge is the country name in English: 'REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO', with the year of issue '1978' below.
