    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, with 12 stars at their ends.

    Along the upper arc of the coin's edge are 12 stars of the European Union, with the name of the issuing state, Vatican City, in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' below. Along the border of the inner disc: on the left, the inscription '75o ANNO DELLO STATO', translating from Italian as '75 YEARS OF THE STATE'; on the upper right, the years of foundation and anniversary '1929—2004', below which are the artist's signature Guido Veroi 'VEROI' and the engraver's signature Luciano De Simoni 'L.D.S. INC.'. The central part features the outline of Vatican City's borders. In the foreground are St. Peter's Basilica and the square in front of it. To the right of the border is the letter 'R' – the mint mark of the Rome Mint.
