In the central part, inscribed within a circle, are depicted the Virgin Mary and the infant Christ sitting before her on a bed of ears of grain, both with their hands raised upwards. To the left of the Virgin are two Magi: a man kneeling on one knee with a scroll in his hands, and a woman standing full-length with her head bowed. To her right is a Magus kneeling on one knee with his right hand raised upwards. Above the people's heads is depicted the Star of Bethlehem, its rays directed downwards. The star and the figures of the Magi are inscribed within a triangle. To the left of the Magi is depicted a donkey, to the right an ox, standing in a stable. Above them, chickens are sitting on a perch. Above and below the composition are four decorative elements in the form of stylized snowflakes.
Obverse
In the central part is depicted the coat of arms of Ukraine, above it a curved ribbon, on the ribbon an inscription - the name of the country in Ukrainian: «УКРАЇНА». Below the coat of arms is a three-line inscription: «5 ГРИВЕНЬ» - 5 hryvnias and the year of mintage 1999. To the left and right of the coat of arms and the inscriptions are two angels, facing the center.
