Along the edge arc are inscriptions: left 'ORDEM E', right 'PROGRESSO', translating from Portuguese as 'ORDER AND PROGRESS'. In the central upper part is the depiction of the Brazilian national coat of arms: a central emblem in the form of a star with a round shield is framed by a wreath of coffee tree branches on the left and tobacco on the right. The wreath rests on the rays of a ten-pointed star. Below, at the base of the emblem, a sword is positioned vertically, its hilt also bearing a small star. On the round shield, 5 stars geometrically replicate the Southern Cross constellation. The shield is framed by a border of 20 more stars. On the motto ribbon below the sword is the official state name in Portuguese 'ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL', translating as 'UNITED STATES OF BRAZIL'. On the lower ribbons is the date of the federal republic's foundation '15 DE NOVEMBRO DE 1889' — 'November 15, 1889'. Below the coat of arms, in two lines, is the inscription '2000 / REIS', translating from Portuguese as 'two thousand reis', framed by two intertwined branches at the base.
