    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the French text: "COTE FRANÇAISE DES SOMALIS" - "FRENCH COAST OF SOMALI". Below is a relief ornament of rhombuses and dots. In the central part is the head of an antelope, with 20 ostrich feathers between its horns. To its right is the numeral 5, and to its left the letter designation for franc - "FR". Along the left and right edges of the coin are images of two fish facing opposite directions from each other.

    In the central part is the emblem of Djibouti - an image of two traditional daggers, a spear, and a shield inside a laurel wreath. To the left, above, and to the right along the rim is the name of the country, Republic of Djibouti, in French: "REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI". Below: "1986" - the year of minting.
