Below, the inscription is closed by a semi-circular border in the form of alternating round and oblong beads. In the central part, the head of an antelope separates the inscription '1 F' — 'one franc'.

Along the curve of the coin's edge, on the left the inscription in French 'REPUBLIQUE', on the right 'FRANÇAISE', which translates as 'French Republic'. In the central part, a left-facing profile of Marianne against a background of ships. Below the ships, the designer's signature 'LBAZOR' and 'GB' separated by the profile. Below that, the year of minting '1965'.
