    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. From this map, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending with 12 stars.

    Along the rim on the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly distributed. At the bottom, the year of issue 2004 is inscribed, divided by one of the stars into two parts: '20' and '04'. On the inner disc, the statue of the famous ancient sculptor Myron, 'Discobolus', is depicted. To its left is the emblem of the 28th Summer Olympics: the English text 'ATHENS 2004', translating to 'Athens 2004', with the five Olympic rings below it. To the right of the sculpture is the inscription '2 ΕΥΡΩ', translating from Greek as 'two euro'.
