In the central part, a wounded soldier and a nurse caring for him are depicted. To their right is a medical cross. Above the cross is the inscription: '5 EURO'. To their left, a grieving soldier stands leaning on his rifle. To the left of the soldier is a four-petaled poppy flower and the years 1914 – 1918 in two lines. Below the years is the engraver's monogram: 'NGB'. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is the English inscription: 'MALTA. NURSE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN.REMEMBERS THE FALLEN'. Along the lower edge is the English inscription: 'WW1.100-TH ANNIVERSARY'.
Obverse
In the central part, within a smaller circle, is the coat of arms of Malta. To its left, the country name in English is inscribed in a semicircle: 'MALTA'. To its right is the year of issue, 2014. Twelve five-pointed stars are placed along the coin's edge.
