In the central part, the numeral 5 and a two-line inscription: 'EURO CENT' - 5 euro cents. To the left and below, an image of the Earth's globe, with Europe highlighted, from which six slanted rays extend upwards and downwards. At the ends of these rays, along the rim, are twelve five-pointed stars. To the right of the Earth, the monogram 'LL' - the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of smaller diameter, a stylized depiction of the Azure Window on the island of Gozo. Below it, a two-line inscription: 'MALTA 2008' - the name of the state and the year of minting. Along the edge of the coin are twelve five-pointed stars.
