Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a jug. Along the lower edge arc is the English text: '1 OUGUIYA' - 1 ouguiya and the year of issue, flanked by five-pointed stars: 2017. From left to right is an inscription in Arabic: 'البنك المركزي الموريتاني' - Central Bank of Mauritania. The coin's edge features relief elements in the form of a traditional ornament.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle, is the coat of arms of Mauritania. To the left, top, and right along the rim is the country's name in Arabic: 'الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية' - Islamic Republic of Mauritania. At the bottom is the inscription: 'أوقية ١', which translates to: 1 ouguiya.
