    In the central part on the right are large numerals 20, below them a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT' – meaning 'twenty euro cents'. To the right of the numerals is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. In the central part on the left are the outlines of the eurozone countries. From them, six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards, ending with 12 stars.

    In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, are 12 five-pointed stars symbolizing the eurozone countries. Below is the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. In the central part is the coat of arms of the Apostolic Camerlengo – the symbolism of the Holy See during the interregnum. Above the emblem is the Latin inscription 'SEDE VACANTE MMV' – 'The See is vacant 2005'. Below the coat of arms are inscriptions in Italian: 'M. A. C. INC' – the personal mark of engraver Maria Angela Cassol and the signature of the artist Daniela Longo 'D.LONGO'.
