    The foreground depicts the scene of Columbus's departure from the port of Palos de la Frontera, with the masts of three ships visible in the background. Above them is the inscription "3 DE AGOSTO" (3 August). From left to right, the inscription reads "SALIDAS DEL PUERTO DE PALOS 1492" (Departure from the Port of Palos 1492). At the beginning of the legend is a key with a five-pointed star below it, and at the end is the year of minting "1990".
