Reverse
In the central part is a tree, with two alpacas lying facing each other on either side of the trunk. Above the crown are six six-pointed stars arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge of the coin, text from left to right: the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia), at the bottom the Latin letters 'PTS', the inscription '8S' (8 sueldos), the year of minting '1842', the engraver's mark - 'LR', with dots between the inscriptions. Along the arc of the coin's edge is a rope-like pattern.
Obverse
In the center is a right-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar, wearing a laurel wreath on his head. Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: left and right 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION.' (Free by the Constitution), at the bottom the person's name 'Bolivar'. The edge of the coin features a raised rope-like pattern.
