In the central part is a right-facing portrait of the first President of Bolivia, Simón Bolívar, in uniform, wearing a laurel wreath on his head. Below the truncation is the person's name 'Bolivar'. Along the arc of the left and right edges of the coin is an inscription in Spanish 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUC.' (Free by the constitution). Around the edge of the coin is a relief pattern in the form of a rope.
Obverse
In the center is a tree, with alpacas lying facing each other on either side of the trunk. Above the crown are six six-pointed stars arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge of the coin are inscriptions: on the left, top, and right, the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia), at the bottom the Latin letters 'PTS', the inscription '1S' (1 sueldo), the mint year '1827', the engraver's mark 'IM', with dots between the inscriptions. Along the rim is a pattern in the form of a rope.
