Along the edge arc, inscriptions in Portuguese: at the top 'DECRETO DE 1870', translated as 'DECREE OF 1870', separated by a crown; at the bottom '2000 RÉIS' — 'two thousand reis', flanked on both sides by elongated relief elements. In the central part, the coat of arms of the Brazilian Empire: the heraldic shield is crowned with the imperial crown and framed on three sides by a wreath formed by branches of a coffee tree on the left and tobacco on the right, tied at the base. On the shield, within a circular band of evenly distributed stars, an armillary sphere is depicted against a widened cross.
Obverse
Decorative raised denticles along the rim. Along the edge, inscriptions in Latin: on the left 'PETRUS.II. D.G.C. IMP.', on the right '.ET.PERP. BRAS.DEF.', translated as 'Pedro II by the Grace of God and the Constitution, Emperor of Brazil'; at the bottom the mint year '1886', flanked on both sides by rosettes. In the central part, a left-facing profile portrait of Emperor Pedro II.
