In the central part is the coat of arms of Austria from 1919-1934. It features a crowned eagle with wings spread, its head turned to the left, holding a sickle in its right talon and a hammer in its left. The eagle's tail feathers divide the mint year '2003' into two parts. To the left of the eagle is the flag of the European Union, to the right is the flag of Austria. Along the rim are German inscriptions: at the top, the country name 'REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH' (Republic of Austria); at the bottom, a two-line inscription '20 EURO' (20 Euro). On the edge of the Austrian flag is the artist's mark of Thomas Pesendorfer: 'TP'.
