The central part features a portrait of M. S. Hrushevskyi; on the left in the background is the building of the Central Rada (now the Teacher's House), where the first President of the Ukrainian People's Republic worked in 1917-1918. Around the coin's circumference is the text: on the left MYKHAILO, on the right HRUSHEVSKYI, and below 1866-1934 — the birth and death years of M. S. Hrushevskyi.
Obverse
In the central part of a circle formed by dots is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine framed by guelder-rose branches. Above the emblem is the date 1996 — the year of coin minting. Around the coin's circumference are inscriptions: at the top UKRAINY, at the bottom in two lines 200000 KARBOVANTSIV, which denote the nominal value of the coin.
