Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised denticles. Along the rim are inscriptions in Latin: on the left «PETRUS.II. D.G.C. IMP.», on the right «.ET.PERP. BRAS.DEF.», translated as «Pedro II by the Grace of God and the Constitution, Emperor of Brazil»; at the bottom the mint year «1868», flanked on both sides by rosettes. In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of Emperor Pedro II. Below the truncation of the neck are the letters «C.L.» -- the artist's mark of Christian Lüster.
