    The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen; in the eagle's right talon are a sword and scepter, in the left an orb; on its breast is the family heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the edge of the coin is a Latin inscription to the right and left: 'HVNG∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙IL∙REX∙A∙A∙1836∙' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1836), below the numeral 5. The rim is decorated with decorative teeth.

    Centered is the right-facing profile of Ferdinand I, Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Hungary and Bohemia, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Around the edge of the coin, from left to right, is the Latin text 'FERDINANDVS I∙D∙G∙AVST∙IMPERATOR∙' (Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria). Below is the Latin letter 'A' – the mint mark of the Vienna Mint. The rim of the coin features decorative raised teeth.
