In the central part is the small coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In the eagle's right talon are a sword and scepter, in the left an orb. On the eagle's breast, within an oval framed by a chain, is the numeral 3. Along the edge of the coin, in Latin, from right, bottom to left: 'HVNG∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙IL∙REX∙A∙A∙1836∙' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1836). The rim is decorated with decorative teeth.
Obverse
In the center is the right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Hungary and Bohemia, Ferdinand I, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription: from left, top to right: 'FERDINANDVS I∙D∙G∙AVST∙IMPERATOR∙' (Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria). Below is the Latin letter 'A' - the mint mark of Vienna. The rim features decorative raised teeth.
