In the central part is the Monument to the Unknown Sailor, erected in the T.G. Shevchenko Central Park of Culture and Recreation in honor of the fallen soldiers of the Separate Coastal Army, sailors of the Black Sea Fleet, and the Odesa People's Militia Division, who defended Odesa from the regular troops of Nazi Germany and its allies for 73 days in August-October 1941. To the left and right of the monument, against a background of sea waves, are depicted respectively a fragment of the seaport with cranes and a ship at the pier, and the Odesa Lighthouse. In the upper part of the coin are the silhouettes of three flying seagulls: two on the left, one on the right of the obelisk. Around the coin's circumference is text: at the top HERO CITY ODESSA, at the bottom below the obelisk's pedestal 1941-1945.
  • Obverse
In the central part of a circle formed of dots is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine framed by viburnum branches. Each branch has five leaves and three clusters of berries. The top cluster consists of seven berries, the middle one of five, and the bottom one of six. Above the emblem is the date 1995 — the year of the coin's minting. Below the emblem, in two lines along the circumference, is the inscription 200,000 KARBOVANTSIV, which denotes the coin's face value (the number 200,000 is placed within a break in the dots). Between the outer rim and the circle of dots at the top, along the circumference, is the inscription NATIONAL BANK OF UKRAINE, separated on both sides from the word KARBOVANTSIV by dividing marks in the form of diamonds.
