In the eagle's right talon are a sword and scepter, in the left an orb. On the eagle's breast, within an oval framed by a chain, is the numeral 3. Along the edge of the coin, Latin inscriptions to the right, bottom, and left read: 'REX∙LOMB∙ET∙VEN∙DALM∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙A∙A∙1838∙' (King of Lombardy and Venice, Dalmatia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1838). The rim is decorated with decorative teeth.
  • Obverse
Centered is the right-facing profile of Ferdinand I, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription: to the left, top, and right 'FERD∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTR∙IMP∙HVNG∙BOH∙R∙H∙N∙V∙' (Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Bohemia). Below is the Latin letter 'A' - the mint mark of Vienna. The rim features decorative raised teeth.
