From left to right, the inscription '200TH ANNIVERSARY OF GEORG BÜCHNER'S BIRTH' in German '200. GEBURTSTAG GEORG BÜCHNER'. In the central part is a portrait of the German poet and playwright. On either side of the portrait, the inscription in German 'FRIEDE DEN HÜTTEN KRIEG DEN PALÄSTEN', translated as 'PEACE TO THE HUTS, WAR ON THE PALACES', is split into two parts. To the right of the image are the artist's initials 'ER' - Eugen Ruhl.

Obverse

Centered and surrounded by twelve five-pointed stars is a stylized state symbol of the Federal Republic of Germany: a heraldic eagle facing left. To the left, right, and top is the country name and year of minting 'FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY 2013' in German - 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND 2013', at the bottom the inscription ten euro '10 EURO'. To the right of the eagle is the Latin mint mark letter 'F' - the mark of the Stuttgart Mint.
