In the central part is the shield of the coat of arms of Colombia, above which flies a dove holding a ribbon in its beak with the inscription in Spanish: «LIBERTAG I ORDEN», translated: «Liberty and Order». Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription: «DEIZ I SEIS PESOS. POPAYAN. U. M.» - 16 (ten and six) pesos and the indication of the Popayán mint. The inscription is separated at the bottom by a small flower head image. The coin's edge features a decorative toothed pattern.
Obverse
To the left, top, and right is an inscription in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA.», which translates to: «Republic of New Granada». In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait of the goddess Liberty, her head adorned with a ribbon bearing the Spanish inscription: «LIBERTAG», translated as «Liberty». In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, is the mint year 1846 with a period. The coin's edge features a decorative toothed pattern.
