  • Reverse
    In the central part of the reverse is a relief depiction of a woman (St. Mary) holding an infant. Along the arc of the left and right edge of the coin is the inscription: «PATRONA.HVNG.1848.S.MARIA.MATER.DEI.», which translates to: «Saint Mary Mother of God, Patroness of Hungary». 1848 is the year of mintage. At the bottom, partially overlapping the image of Mary, is the Crown of Hungary. The coin's edge features a decorative raised toothed pattern.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is a full-length right profile of King Ferdinand I wearing a crown, holding an orb and scepter, and clad in knight's armor. To the right and left along the edge is the text: «FERD.I.D.G.AVST.IMP.HVNG.B.REX.H.N.V.R.L.V.D.G.L.I.A.A.», which translates from German as: «Ferdinand I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, Bohemia, the fifth of this line, King of Lombardy, Venice, Dalmatia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria». The coin's edge features a decorative raised toothed pattern.
