    The central part features the coat of arms of the German East African Company - a lion and a palm tree within an ornate cartouche. Below, within a decorative vignette, the digits "1891" are placed, indicating the year of issue. All images and digits are enclosed within a solid circle. Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, is the German inscription "DEUTSCH - OSTAFRIKANISCHE GESELLSCHAFT", translating to "German East African Company". Along the lower edge of the coin is the inscription "★ 1/2 RUPIE ★", which translates from German as "★ 1/2 rupee ★". The rim of the coin features decorative elements in the form of dots.

    The central part features a left-facing profile of German Emperor Wilhelm II wearing a cuirassier helmet topped with an eagle facing left, and a period military uniform with epaulettes. Along the rim, to the left and right, is the Latin inscription "GUILELMUS II IMPERATOR", which translates to "Wilhelm II, Emperor". The rim of the coin features decorative raised dots.
