    Along the upper edge arc, the colony's name in German 'DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA'. In the center, the inscription '1/4 RUPIE 1914' is framed by palm branches. Below the date, the letter 'J' - the mint mark of the Hamburg Mint. Along the coin's edge are decorative dot elements.

    In the central part of the coin, the left-facing profile of German Kaiser Wilhelm II is struck. Along the edge arc, text in Latin: on the left 'GUILELMUS II', on the right 'IMPERATOR', which translates to 'WILHELM II EMPEROR'. Around the circumference are decorative raised dots.
