The central part features a right-facing portrait of French Queen Catherine de' Medici. Along the upper edge in an arc is the queen's name in French, 'Catherine de Médicis', with the years of her life '1519 - 1589' below. The open space is filled with a Renaissance-era pattern. To the left and right within the patterns is the monogram 'HCD'.
Obverse
Against a background of the repeating joint monogram (HCD) of Henry II, Catherine de' Medici, and Diane de Poitiers, the Château de Chenonceau (view from the Cher River side) is depicted in the center. In the foreground of the château is a basket with an unopened artichoke flower. Below it are the inscriptions: the denomination in English '10 EURO', the letters 'RF' for République Française, and the mint year '2017', flanked on the left by a cornucopia (the mark of the Paris Mint) and on the right by a pentagon (the mark of the Paris Mint's Chief Engraver, Yves Sampo). Along the upper edge in an arc is the name of the château in French and the year 'CHENONCEAU 1561'.
