Along the lower edge, the issuing country's name in English 'CANADA' and the inscription '20 DOLLARS' are arranged in an arc. In the central part, within an oval frame, is a portrait of an aviation hero, layered with 24-karat gold. The portrait is depicted against the background of the CL-215 amphibious water bomber aircraft.

Along the rim are inscriptions in English: on the left 'ELIZABETH II', on the right 'D. G. REGINA', translating to 'Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen'; below, the year of mintage '1998' is flanked on both sides by raised dot elements. In the central part is the right-facing profile of the Queen.
