In the central part, a large numeral '2' on the left. On the right, at the top, a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT', meaning 'two euro cent'. Below the inscription, a symbolic depiction of the globe with the outlines of Europe against a background of six slanted parallel lines, with 12 stars at their ends. Near the rim on the right is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'.
Obverse
Around the edge of the coin are 12 stars of the European Union. In the central part is a collective image of a young, feminine modern Frenchwoman, Marianne. To her right are large cursive letters 'FR' — the sign of France on European Union coins. Below, on the left, is the mark of the Paris Mint (a cornucopia), and on the right is the mark of its Chief Engraver, Hubert Larivière (a French horn with waves inside). Below that is the year of issue '2006'. Along the rim at the bottom right, between two stars, is the signature of the author Fabienne Courtiade 'F.COURTIADE'.
