Reverse In the central part, the emblem of the Republic of Haiti: a palm tree, topped with a Phrygian cap and adorned with trophies, with the motto in French 'L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE', which translates to 'In unity there is strength'. Along the edge of the coin are decorative elements in the form of dentils, alongside which are the inscriptions 'LIBERTÉ', 'ÉGALITÉ', 'FRATERNITÉ', '50 CENTes', which translate from French as 'LIBERTY', 'EQUALITY', 'FRATERNITY', '50 CENTS'. Between the inscriptions are raised dots, a 'flower', an 'axe', and the mark of the Paris Mint 'Cornucopia'.
Obverse In the central part, a right-facing profile of a woman wearing a headscarf is depicted. Above her is a five-pointed star, surrounded by inscriptions: 'REPUBLIQUE D’HAITIAN 84', '835 MILL', '1887', '12,5 GRAM', the inscriptions are separated from each other by raised dots. Below the portrait are the engravers' marks 'ROTY GR' and 'LAFORESTRIE'. Along the rim are elements in the form of dentils.
