The central part features the state coat of arms of the Republic of Haiti - a palm tree, its trunk emerging from a stylized depiction of a drum, with flags and lightning bolts to the left and right. Below them is a platform and cannonballs, and beneath that a ribbon bearing the French inscription "L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE" - "Unity Makes Strength". Along the upper edge of the coin, from left to right, is the inscription "LIBERTÉ EGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ", which translates from French as "Liberty. Equality.
