In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, is the French text: "COTE FRANÇAISE DES SOMALIS" - "FRENCH SOMALILAND". Below is a relief ornament of diamonds and dots. In the central part is the head of an antelope, with 20 ostrich feathers between its horns. To its right is the numeral 1, and to its left the letter designation for franc - "F". Along the left and right edges of the coin are images of two fish facing in opposite directions from each other.
Obverse
In the central part is the left-facing profile of Marianne – a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap, against a background of a fleet of 4 ships. To the left and right along the edge is the French text: «REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE UNION FRANÇAISE», which translates to "FRENCH REPUBLIC FRENCH UNION". In the lower part, along the edge of the coin, is the year of mintage, 1948.
