In the central part, the emblem of the Republic of Haiti: a palm tree, topped with a Phrygian cap (liberty cap) and adorned with trophies, with the motto in French 'L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE', which translates to 'In unity there is strength'. Along the edge of the coin are decorative elements in the form of dentils, alongside which are inscriptions 'LIBERTÉ', 'ÉGALITÉ', 'FRATERNITÉ', '50 CENTes', which translate from French as 'LIBERTY', 'EQUALITY', 'FRATERNITY', '50 CENTS'. Between the inscriptions are raised dots, a 'flower', an 'axe', and the mark of the Paris Mint 'Cornucopia'.
Obverse
In the central part, a right-facing profile of a woman wearing a headscarf is depicted. Above her is a five-pointed star, around it are inscriptions: 'REPUBLIQUE D’HAITIAN79', '835 MILL', '1882', '12,5GRAM', separated from each other by raised dots. Below the portrait are the engravers' marks 'ROTY GR' and 'LAFORESTRIE'. Along the rim are elements in the form of dentils.
