Around the edge of the coin is a decorative raised pattern of outward-pointing teeth. Along the arc of the coin's edge, from left to right, is the name of the state in Portuguese: 'REPÚBLICA dos ESTADOS UNIDOS do BRASIL', which translates to 'Republic of the United States of Brazil'; below is the year of minting '1924'. In the central part at the top is a symbol of authority – fasces. Below, in two lines, is the inscription '2.000 / REIS', translating from Portuguese as 'two thousand reis'. The central relief designs on the reverse are flanked left and right by two branches tied at the base with a bow.
