Along the arc of the left edge of the coin are 12 five-pointed stars, symbolizing the 12 member countries of the European Union; on the right is the letter 'LL' - the mark of the artist of the Royal Belgian Mint, Luc Luycx.

    In the central part, the left-facing profile of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands against a background of numerous stars. Around the circumference of the portrait are 12 five-pointed stars, symbolizing the 12 member countries of the European Union. In the lower part, along the arc of the coin's edge, is the year of issue: 2006, flanked by the mintmarks of the Utrecht Mint: a sailing ship - the mark of mintmaster Maarten Brouwer, and the caduceus of Mercury. To the left, above, and to the right is an inscription in Dutch: 'BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN' - Beatrix Queen of the Netherlands.
