    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the architectural ensemble of the Registan. Below it is a decorative line in the form of a spiral. Further below is the inscription 'SAMARKAND'. At the top, along the outer rim of the coin, the inscription 'REGISTAN' is placed in a semicircle. Below it are the dates 'XV-XVII CENTURIES' in a semicircle and a decorative pattern.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR', slightly lower the denomination of the coin, the numeral '5', and below that the word 'RUBLES'. Near the edge in the lower part is the year of mintage '1989'.
