Armory Show Announces Exhibitors for 2024 Edition

Organizers ofthe Armory Showhave revealed the more than 235 galleries set to participate in the New York event’s 2024 iteration, slated to take place September 6–8 at the Javits Center, with a September 5 VIP preview day. The upcoming edition marks the thirtieth anniversary of the fair, and its second year under the auspices of Frieze, whichpurchasedit along with Expo Chicago in 2023. This year’s show will feature a new floor plan and is being sponsored by American Express.

Over thirty countries will be represented at the fair, which will see the return of more than 145 galleries from last year’s edition, among them New York’s 303 Gallery; Tehran’s Dastan Gallery; Almine Rech, which has outposts in New York, Paris, Brussels, London, and Shanghai; and LA’s Vielmetter Los Angeles. Over twenty-five participants will be back following a hiatus, including Shanghai’s Bank, New York’s Jeffrey Deitch, and Mexico City’s Proyectos Monclova. Among the more than fifty-five exhibitors making their Armory Show debuts are Chicago’s Corbett vs. Dempsey, Seoul’s Gallery Baton, New York’s Hannah Traore Gallery, and Experimenter, which has branches in Kolkata and Mumbai.

The Armory Show announced New York’s Blade Study as the recipient of the 2024 Gramercy International Prize. The honor reflects the event’s original name, the Gramercy International Art Fair, and is presented each year to a New York–based gallery making its inaugural appearance at the show. Creative Time was named as the recipient of this year’s Armory Spotlight.

As revealedlate last year, the fair will be divided into three main sections: Galleries, the main section, focused on twentieth- and twenty-first-century art; Solo, for one-person presentations of emerging, established, and historic artists; and Presents, which features solo- and dual-artist presentations from galleries under ten years old. A Focus section, curated by Robyn Farrell, senior curator at the Kitchen in New York, will center single- and dual-artist presentations related to the Armory Show’s first, 1994 edition; while Platform, organized by independent curator Eugenie Tsai, will feature large-scale works. A Not-for-Profit section will highlight presentations from museums and other not-for-profit organizations aimed at promoting the visual arts.

In the wake of thedeparturethis past March of Armory Show director Nicole Berry, the fair is currently being led by Kristell Chadé, Frieze’s executive director of fairs, and Christine Messineo, the company’s Americas director.

“We are thrilled to present this important edition of the Armory Show,” said Chadé in a statement. “For the past thirty years, the Armory Show has been an anchor of the city’s cultural landscape, championing art at the forefront and providing galleries an opportunity to engage with New York audiences. It has been a pleasure working with the team to build on the strengths of the fair and expand its reach. We look forward to welcoming a number of new exhibitors and thoughtful presentations, underscoring the Armory Show’s position as a platform for discovery.”
