Art fair behemoth Art Basel has announced that it is rebranding its Paris+ event—whose full title was Paris+ par Art Basel—asArt Basel Paris. The change has been approved by French culture minister Rachida Dati and “follows extensive consultations with Art Basel’s local partners and interlocutors,” according to a press release.
The name change precedes the fair’s move this fall from the Grand Palais Éphémère in the Champ de Mars, where it has been held since its 2022 founding, to the Grand Palais. The iconic glass-and-steel structure—which for decades housed the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) before Art Baselrippedit from French hands—had been closed for a $500 million renovation ahead of the forthcoming 2024 Summer Olympics.
Art Basel has released a full list of exhibitors who will participate in Art Basel Paris. The event’s VIP days will take place October 16 and 17, with the general public welcome October 18–20. The fair is divided into three sections: Galeries, the main section; Emergence, featuring solo presentations by up-and-coming artists; and the newly created Premise, which will offer “highly singular projects” that “challenge the conventional art historical canon, with a particular focus on compelling yet little-known artistic practices,” according to the press release. A new initiative, Oh La La!, invites exhibitors to show rarely seen work on October 18 and 19, stimulating traffic after VIP buyers have gone home.
The fair will host 194 galleries this year, forty more than appeared at the previous iteration. Blue-chip international galleries Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace, Sprüth Magers, and White Cube are just a few of the 169 participants in the Galeries section, with New York’s Casey Kaplan and Mexico City’s Labor among those making their debut in the section. The Emergence section will include Jakarta’s ROH Projects, Detroit’s What Pipeline, and Oslo’s VI, VII, while among those showing in Premise are the Casablanca- and Marrakesh-based Loft Art Gallery, which will exhibit work by Mohamed Melehi, and Istanbul’s the Pill, which will present work by Nil Yalter.
A full list of participants, broken down by section, is below.
