Blum to Open TriBeCa Gallery Sans Poe

Tim Blum, who retained ownership of well-known Los Angeles gallery Blum & Poe following hissplitthis past summer from Jeff Poe, his business partner of nearly three decades, is renaming the enterprise and moving its New York outpost downtown. The gallery, which will retain its LA flagship and Tokyo outpost, will henceforth be known simply as Blum. Its New York branch will close up shop on the Upper East Side and open in buzzy TriBeCa, taking up two floors and 6,200 square feet at the 9 White Street address previously occupied by Ortuzar Projects. The latter gallery will move next door and triple in size.

Blum’s move to TriBeCa is relatively unsurprising, given that the downtown neighborhood is increasingly seen by many as the current hub of the New York art world. The district has recently welcomed—or is set to welcome—such heavy hitters as Almine Rech,Marian Goodman, and Venus Over Manhattan. P.P.O.W expanded its gallery there last year, and Pace Gallery founder Arne Glimcher chose the neighborhood as the site of his125 Newbury Galleryaround the same time.
