Tokyo Jazz Club to Debut in November During Art Week Tokyo

Tokyo Jazz Club, a group exhibition and “marketplace” from a collective of artists, galleries, and performers, will be debuting in partnership withArt Week Tokyothis November. A list of participating artists and a full performance program are both forthcoming, but the Club will unfold between November 1st and the 8th.Art Week Tokyo, a city-wide contemporary art event, takes place annually in partnership in collaboration with Art Basel.

Tokyo Jazz Club 2026 will unfold across eight floors of a former capsule hotel near Jimbōchō, a district best known for its antique markets and used book shops. Within this multi-tiered space, exhibitions will overlap with musical performances, food and drink offerings.

The Club, which is made possible via the support of Arts Council Tokyo, explicitly draws on the legacy of the Basel Social Club, which was founded in 2022 by an artist collective dedicated to creating new social spaces. The fifth edition of Basel Social Club, which took place this June, transformed a vacant multi-story office building in Basel into a temporary art space.

Tokyo Jazz Club takes inspiration from the city’s longtime affair with Jazz. Live venues such as Blue Note Tokyo in Minato and Pit Inn in Shinjuku are world-renowned for their influence, and this new art event’s goal is to pay homage to jazz as a structural principle. Tokyo Jazz Club wants to honor social complexity, abstraction and sound as a generative creative force.

“Tokyo is the natural choice for the continued evolution of the ideas we have developed through Basel Social Club,” the organization said in a statement. “The city holds an extraordinary tension between tradition and experimentation — from its deep musical history, formal rituals, and exquisite craftsmanship to its embrace of highly original and unconventional forms of expression.”
