Flávia Almeida to Succeed Heitor Martins as President of Museu de Arte de São Paulo

TheMuseu de Arte de São Paulo(MASP) in Brazil has announcedFlávia Almeidaas its next president,Art Reviewreports. Almeida, who is currently the institution’s vice president, will take the reins fromHeitor Martins, who is leaving in September, after twelve years in the role.
Almeida has a strong background in business and management.Before arriving at MASP, she was director of Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, on whose board she still sits; she also chaired the board of São Paulo’s Instituto Tomie Ohtake. Earlier roles include leadership positions and board seats at various business concerns, including private investment company Península Participações, oil and gas conglomerate Ultrapar, and global strategy consulting firm Monitor Group. Almeida began her career at management consulting company McKinsey & Co. in 1989, rising to become its first Brazilian female partner before exiting in 2003. She holds an MBA from Harvard University and a degree in business administration from Fundação Getúlio Varga.
Almeida has big shoes to fill. During his tenure, Martins saved the museum from bankruptcy; instituted measures to protect against art theft; addressed technical problems, including the power outages that plague the region; and raised R$1.5 billion ($292 million), as well as an additional R$275 million ($54 million), which he poured into the construction of the fourteen-story annex Edifício Pietro Maria Bardi, opened in spring of 2025. He leaves MASP with a R$30 million ($6 million) reserve.
