Jeju Museum Of Art Reveals Final Artist Lineup For 2026 Jeju Biennale

TheJeju Museum of Arthas revealed the list of sixty-nine participating artists and collectives for the 2026Jeju Biennalein apress release. The event, which is set to open on August 25, will run until November 15, and is titled “Iyahong: The Art of Metamorphosis.”
Now in its fifth edition, the Jeju Biennale will take place across three venues in Jeju City, South Korea. The artists showcasing work at the biennale hail from twenty-on countries, and approximately 30% are from Jeju, which is the country’s largest island. This reflects the biennale’s effort to weave Jeju’s artistic identity into international conversations about art.
Prominent artists from Jeju featured at this edition of the biennale include the painters Byun Si-ji (1926–2013) and Kang Yo-bae. The list also has leading figures in Korean contemporary art across generations, including Lee Ufan, Yun Hyong-keun, Nam June Paik, Lee Ungno, and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, alongside international artists like Wael Shawky, Gala Porras-Kim, Alaa Edris, and Saodat Ismailova.
The three main venues will host showcases with unique themes, namely: “Human” at the Jeju Museum of Art, “Deities” at exhibition spaces in Jeju’s historic downtown, and “Stone” at Jeju Stone Park. Additionally, the Jeju Arts Platform will also host a dedicated film program in Jeju’s historic downtown, offering a look at contemporary moving image art through the work of artists like Patricio Guzmán and Ben Rivers.
Lee Jong-hoo, the Jeju Museum of Art’s artistic director said in a statement: “This biennale, marking a new turning point, holds special significance more than ever before.” He hopes that this edition will become a space for “exhilarating art and culture” where people can “fully see, participate in, and harmonize with art” in Jeju’s historic downtown area, and its natural landscapes.
