On Thursday, the luxury fashion houseChaneland Paris’sCentre Pompidouannounced afive-year strategic partnershipin support of the contemporary art museum’s significant phase of renovations, which is planned to culminate in 2030 with the reopening of the museum.
The new collaboration betweenChanelandCentre Pompidou–the two organizations have previously partnered on initiatives to strengthen representation in the museum’s collection and to bolster the acquisition of Chinese art–will center around ensuring that the Centre Pompidou’s resources will continue to be available to new generations of culture makers.
“This long-term partnership reflects Chanel’s commitment to the enduring vitality of the museum,” Yana Peel, President of Arts, Culture & Heritage at Chanel, said in a statement. “Building on years of collaboration, from funding acquisitions to programmes spanning disciplines, we honour an institution that continuously expands how culture is produced, studied, and shared.”
“Centre Pompidou is undergoing a true metamorphosis,” Laurent Le Bon, President of Centre Pompidou, said in her own statement. “The partnership between Chanel and Centre Pompidou, she added, “is a natural meeting of two leading cultural forces that share the same demand for excellence and a bold vision of creation.”
Earlier this week, Centre Pompidou also announced another strategic partnership with Hong Kong’s M+ museum; that collaboration will involve a forthcoming exhibition featuring works from both museums and a four-year postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Huo Family Foundation.
Chanel is a frequent collaborator with, and supporter of, arts institutions: earlier this month, the brand announced the forthcoming launch of an annual, one-year fellowship in collaboration with the Guggenheim in both New York and Venice. They’ve also launched a women’s art residency with the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and supported a new A.I.-centric arts center at California Institute of Arts.
